Background

Originally incorporated as United Wholesale Grocers Ltd. in 1972 by a western Canadian based group of independent retailers and wholesalers who were looking to combine their buying so they could better compete with the large grocery chains.

Today, United Grocers Inc. is a national procurement organization which represents key retailers across the country with a significant combined market share of the Canadian food industry.

The strong partnership built between the UGI members and the suppliers has been a key success factor that continues to deliver benefits day after day.

Under its new mission, UGI is looking to create new partnerships with suppliers of all business areas, all fresh departments and suppliers of other store operation services.
